Link Exchange
Filed under Blog and News, SEO by admin on Monday 22 January 2007 at 5:18 am

Don’t Buy Links, EXCHANGE Them!

Trading links is a fast way to raise your traffic and your Google Page Rank.

>>>What effect will this link exchange have on my traffic?

>>>What will the effect of this exchange have on my Page Rank?

>>>What effect will this exchange have on my web site’s reputation?

1st - The most important goal is to drive traffic to your website. You’ll want to know how often the link will be clicked. Placement of the link is a good determiner of this. Even on a low traffic page, a link in a good place can be very powerful. Also, you’ll have to determine if the page gets enough traffic to make that link worthwhile. You can view the web site’s Google Page Rank using a Google toolbar or other online Page Rank generators.

2nd - Look at the Page Rank of the link exchange partner. If your page rank is higher, the bigger the difference in page ranks, there might be some adverse effects on your Page Rank. If your page rank is lower, the bigger the positive effect the exchange will have on your Page Rank.

3rd - If the link is not relevant, if it references to unsuitable materials, or if it isn’t a professional looking webpage, you probably don’t want to link to it. Your website’s reputation is crucial to its return visitors. If you have links to unsuitable content, your users may think that you are associated with this content.

In short, make sure that you are benefiting from your link exchange before agreeing to the exchange. Remember, there are two benefits: increase in traffic and relative content.

Write a ROBOT Text File for Search Engines
Filed under Blog and News, SEO by admin on Sunday 21 January 2007 at 1:50 pm

Use this tool to generate a simple robots.txt file for your website. This file allows you to hide files or directories that you don’t wish the search engine spiders to find. This generator tool is designed to create the text for the file for you; you can then make changes afterward should you deem it necessary.

Generating a robot file with this tool is ideal if you wish to block certain directories or files from search engines.

To use the generator tool, enter the required information below and click the button. You will then be shown the text for the file. Copy this to a file called robots.txt and place on the root of your website (in the same place as your home page).

Imposing Restrictions
You may impose restrictions on which web pages to disallow indexing. By default, most users will want to allow all directories except their /cgi-bin/ directory, which commonly holds scripts, and their images directory /images/. To enable all web pages, select Yes to "Enable All Webpages," then enter each web page or directory path in the exclusion box, one per line.

Example: "http://www.yourdomain.com/cgi-bin/" (Excludes the /cgi-bin/ directory)
Example: "http://www.yourdomain.com/images/" (Excludes the /images/ directory)
Example: "http://www.yourdomain.com/welcome.html" (Excludes the /welcome.html web page)
